What is the Appalachian Heritage Festival?
In the spirit of keeping the unique and beautiful Appalachian culture ALIVE in the children, we invite you and the local community to celebrate rural Appalachia through The Arts, Agriculture, and Outdoor Education on the campus of Woodson Branch Nature School!
Along with our annual Farmstand Sale (Pumpkins * Gourds * Flowers * Garlic Braids *Sorghum Seed Head Bundles *Elderberry Syrup *Dried Tomatoes) we will also have something fun to do or eat from each program group!
Each person in your group will have an experience to remember!
– The Arts Program has been working on an Art Show! Hazel Lee Hall will be transformed into an art gallery. You may also purchase a make and take craft, get your face painted, visit the Spooky Scaredy Scat Trail, or purchase wood patterned art made by the Middle School students. Also, Ms. Jennifer Woodruff will be teaching her natural dying class with her truck-pod and big cauldrons over a wood fire, the traditional way her mother taught her. She has been doing this for 20+ years. We will have white items available for purchase so that you may partake in this fun activity.
– The Outdoor Education Program will be cooking up some delicious food at the new Outdoor Kitchen. They will be making wood fired pizzas and serving Chili with all the fixins. Get some fresh hot cider or some homemade Apple Pie.
– The Agriculture Program will be hosting the Cake Walk and Chicken Bingo! Wait until you see the prizes!!
We will also have some brand new WBNS merchandise available for purchase!!
